Situated almost in the middle of Lower Bay, De Reef is something of an institution. It’s been there forever; a casual, family-run establishment consisting of a decent-sized blue and white structure with a spacious raised deck overlooking a beautiful long, thin stretch of beach. It’s simple, unpretentious and friendly – all assets that have contributed to its longevity. And you can’t fault their taste in background music. They won me over right away with songs by the late, great Lucky Dube (if you’ve never heard this soulful South African reggae artist, please, do yourself a favour!). We visited during our first trip to Bequia 12 years ago, enjoyed it again this time and will be sure to drop by for at least a drink next time we visit this charming little island.
What will you have?
More than you’d think at first glance – at least when it comes to drinks.
Beers: Hairoun and the usual Vincentian suspects at very fair prices, with a decent Happy Hour.
Cocktails: Good selection, with a nice, strong but not too sweet house rum punch.
Food: Surprisingly good. Island favs (including some pretty spicy items) supported with a good selection of smaller meals – sandwiches, salads, etc.
Asides
Being on Lower Bay, it gets a good number of cruise ship passengers.
Reflections…
What you see is what you get. No problem with that.
