The lesser-known and much more relaxed sister island to Antigua, Barbuda generally flies under the radar. It is an island of secluded accommodations, bird sanctuaries and fabulous beaches. The kind of place for people who want to get away from it all – and not do much – in beautiful, uncrowded surroundings.
Barbuda took a pounding from Hurricane Irma in 2017, with the entire population being evacuated. Since then, the island has made slow, but steady, progress in its recovery. Its simple, nature-based attractions still appeal to visitors on day trips from Antigua or those looking to stay longer. Accommodations on the island range from guest houses and cottages to a luxury hotel (with perhaps another on the way).
