A relatively unknown island that sits less than 12 km off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico (to which it belongs), Vieques is a little gem of an island. That is if you like your pace slow, and don’t mind a lack of many of the normal tourist attractions.
A relative newcomer as a tourist destination, Vieques offers uncongested roads, pristine scenery and beautiful, secluded beaches. There is a small, eclectic mix of accommodation and dining options, including some interesting boutique hotels. The Vieques vibe is decidedly laid back.
Photo: Sun Bay Beach, like most on Vieques, is rarely, if ever, crowded.
