If you agree that all it takes to make a beach bar is some seats, a bit of shade and someone serving cold beer, then this minimalist place fits the bill perfectly. The small bar consists of a basic four-post frame cobbled together from rough wood and planks, and the seating is an eclectic mix of a few stools, chairs and a picnic table or two. But there is some shade and it occupies the front line on Pinney’s Beach, as close to the water as you are going to get, with an unobstructed view of St. Kitts.

Also known as Ganzie’s bar, the Rock On Come In looks a little different each time we visit. The old van that served as its de facto beer and spirit storage is now gone and there is actually a small chalk-board sign now – a recent addition. But the welcoming vibe and friendliness is the same as always. On our last visit, Ganzie noticed my Toots & The Maytals t-shirt and immediately played them on the sound system. Oh, and if it’s open, don’t worry if there’s nobody behind the bar. Ganzie is always close by and will be right over.

Expect a handful of locals and a few adventurous beach-combing tourists. You’ll get an enthusiastic welcome, entertaining conversation and a cold beer at unbeatable prices. Don’t expect much more.

What will you have?

Beer: Carib, Stag and maybe others served from a cooler.

Rums/cocktails: There are about a dozen to so bottles on the bar: multiple rums, vodka, gin, tequila, Jack Daniels and the like. As for cocktails, mixed drinks are available, but it’s not exactly an espresso martini kind of place.

Food: There are some salty snacks hanging from the roof and you can grab a bag of popcorn or whatever’s on offer from local beach vendors. Otherwise, it’s whatever you bring with you.

Asides

The Rock On Come In is not much to look at. In fact, it’s not much at all. That and its distinct local feel can keep some people away. Their loss – there’s nothing wrong with authenticity.

Reflections…

An unpretentious local place (about as unpretentious as they come) to grab a beer on the beach and soak up the scenery. You won’t find a friendlier, more easygoing staff anywhere on the island.
